Six is Sweet: Katie's Birthday (photo heavy!)

I can't believe my little Pinks is almost six years old.  Six years seems like forever ago, but when I look back at all the fun we've had, it seems like just yesterday we were searching for "dadoos"--that would be her pacifiers--and playing Kate Kong---she loved to knock over the block buildings her Daddy built.  Now that pretty little blonde-headed girl is finishing up Kindergarten and headed into summer with a bicycle without training wheels and summer fashion she has picked out herself.  We are attached at the hip---she and I---and that's ok.  She's a crafter too, and she loves to try everything Momma does, and sometimes she inspires the plans for the next little adventure.  She'll spend hours at estate sales and hardly ever asks if we are done yet...she finds treasures and hauls them home with ours.  She's an animal lover and she comes by that honest.  She's also sassy and she comes by that honest, too.  :)  She will read a million books--whether we read them to her or she reads them "with her eyes."  She begs her Daddy to make the silly voices of the characters.  Her brothers are the stars of her show, and they would swear she's the one with the magic wand.  She'll get dirty, but then scream like a girl; and she changes her clothes ten times on the weekends and smears on red lipstick and green eye shadow just like the makeup tutorials she watches on YouTube (I think sometimes she does a better job at makeup than I do).  She can make a dress for her Polly Pocket out of toilet paper, and she giggles out loud when we dress the cats like dolls too.  She can name every one of her hundreds of stuffed animals, and if one is misplaced, it's a full on search party until they are safe at home.  She can use an iPhone better than most of us, and she likes to watch Stephen Colbert (not that she understands it, but, maybe she does) and American Idol.  She dances, and sings, and squeals, and laughs, and she's my joy, my princess, my angel, my daughter.  I love her...  Happy Birthday, Pinkins!

Guest Posting: Plant an Herb Garden, Vintage Style!

Hey there!  I am over at Kam's blog, Campfire Chic, with a guest post on planting an herb garden.  I don't have an awesome green thumb, but what a fun and especially cute project this turned out to be!  I can't wait to use some of the herbs to cook with this week.  Come say hi, right over here

I've booked another shoot!  In this dress and these shoes.  In hot rods.  Outside.  Way cool.  I'll post some of the proofs in a few weeks.  *super excited* P.S. I'm in love with Betsey Johnson shoes now.

Journal Pages and The Hunger Games

Just a quick note and a few more pages in my #30Lists journal. And then a shot of the haul from Half Price Books to remedy The Hunger Games withdrawals. Did you have them too?

Uses for Vintage Photos

We see lots of vintage photos at estate sales, and I've struggled with using them on projects until I finally gave in and made some cards with them for the new year.  I sent them out to a few friends and they loved them!  If you look closely at the pictures we've found, there's a story behind them, whether it's one we've imagined or one that's written on the back, and I think that they make the best prompts for quick witted cards or journaling.  See the kitties in the top left corner??  My bestie and I were trying to figure out why the random shot.  Did they get a new camera and want to try the first shot to make sure it worked?  And what were those cats doing?  Eating grasshoppers?

With Kam and Amy about kicking off 30 Lists, I was thinking of ways to incorporate some of these photos in my lists, and here are two simple uses anyone can try.

1.  Place an assortment of photos in your scanner and make a color copy on sticker paper.  The image you see above are a few I chose.  I used OnlineLabels.com and bought the Standard White Matte sticker paper in 8.5"X11" sheets.  It is scored in the back to remove the stickers easily.  I printed in color with standard options. Trim around each photo and round the corners if you wish, and then place them where you find the need to add a little bit of whimsy. I used the one of the guys in leather football helmets for my page about challenges to accept.  Perfect for the prompt!

2.  The second option is to copy the images and print them on heavy white or eggshell card stock.  I would recommend about an 80lb. weight.  You might need to use a lighter card stock if your printer won't feed the heavier weight.  Once printed, trim them, punch a hole on one end, and use them for tags.  The one you see below has two chickens walking down a sidewalk on the right.  Perfect for Feed the Birdies!  I like to hand write my tags.  It's just a little extra personal touch I add in to each package I ship.  You can make gift tags, store tags, tags for photo books, or labels for your filing system. So many great options to do with these copies!

These are both super cheap and easy ideas for using your old photos!  I have more that I will share soon.  Happy copying!

Perfect Wedding Gifts in the Shop!

If you know a bride-to-be who loves vintage, I have just updated the shop with some unique and fun gifts for her kitchen and her home.  Some of my favorites are:

Perfect for little get-togethers with friends or movie night with the girls.
Snacks on the side, drink in the middle!

Oh, these napkins are pretty.   And the glasses are mod.
New kitchens with vintage things are always in style.

A staple...to hold your kitchen staples.  But not everyone has this set.  The good thing about decorating in vintage is that you only find your things in someone else's kitchen every once in a while.

Church picnics, to the park, or to Bunco, carry a cake, cupcakes, and/or chocolate chip cookies in this nearly perfect cake carrier.  It's as close to new as you can get, with the charm of vintage.

Channel your inner Betty Draper, or Don for that matter, and party in style with this gigantic set of thermoware.  You can have coffee or cold drinks, and serve the best appetizers this side of New York City.  Or in the city.  :)

Enjoy your shopping!  I won't tell if you get something for yourself, too.  :)

Saturday Sprinkles: Using Vintage Paper in my #30Lists Journal

Squeee!!  #30Lists started three days ago and I am already behind.  But that's ok.  I have my book, and I have Day One, and maybe by the time I publish this post I'll have Day Two and Three ready to show you too!

I chose a simple paper journal that I got at Target to start with (by the way, Target has tons of stationery and office supplies on clearance...dangerous) and I have just been adding little bits and pieces of papers and stickers and vintage findings as I go.

A little twist this time...Katie has a journal too!  She's writing down her lists (good practice for a Kindergarten student) and I'll show you pictures of hers too.  I love watching little ones write!  And read!

Here is my Day One:  Challenges to Accept and Day Two:  Goals for this Month

See the cool vintage football helmets in the picture?  They are leather.  Haha!  Found.  I need one of those some days.

Make a fruit salad?  Yeah.  That's on my list too.

Here is Katie's Day One:  (her challenges right now are things to learn) and then Day Two: Goals for the Month.

How Feed the Birdies flew in....

Once upon a time two little boys ate Happy Meals in the middle seat of a Ford minivan. Not quite willing to eat the last few fries, they launched them out the door screaming, "feed the birdies!!" And so my journal of a road through motherhood and wifedom, with a little bit of crafting on the side...where everybirdy gets a french fry. And we're all happy about it.
